Dear Members,
I hope this email finds you well. All of us are experiencing unprecedented difficulties and challenges during this current COVID-19 pandemic; in light of this, we hope you and your loved ones are staying safe, healthy, and supported.
In the time since our last district meeting, health and safety protocols around Los Angeles County have become ever more vigilant, and the health and safety of our members and trusted servants must come first. With that in mind, our district meetings will be held via Zoom - see “About Us” page, “Monthly Meeting” until further notice.
Since we’re all aware of the growth and strength that comes from experiencing new challenges, we can look to this unprecedented time as an opportunity to find innovative ways to stay connected. This situation also presents an opportunity for reflection on the accessibility of our brothers and sisters in remote communities who have faced this very issue - and found ways to connect - for decades. I take tremendous comfort in the resilience and determination of our membership to see us through to the other side.
With that said, here at the district, we still have expenses to keep it running - the post office box for correspondence, our website to share information, ensuring we can participate in and fund service events and workshops. Please consider contributing if you’re able, and announcing to your meetings to continue to make their usual distributions to service entities according to their group conscience - such as the General Service Office, LA Central Office, Combined Hollywood District, and Southern California Area 05. Click here to see recommendations for groups, which you can share during an announcement in an online meeting.
Below are some additional considerations and resources:
• A database of virtual meetings and meeting closures is available through LA Central Office and can be found here.
• If you find any meeting has temporarily closed, please also
email info@lacoaa.org so that they can update their meeting closure list.
• Now more than ever it is important that our members have as many ways to
reach out to each other as possible. With this in mind, we are trying to update the list of members willing to take 12th step calls.
If you feel you are able to share your recovery with other members, please email your name, and phone number to combinedhollywood@gmail.com. Please also share with us if we can include your email, and also if you are willing to sponsor a member over the phone and email. Newcomers are the lifeblood of this program, and right now, many will not have other ways to find a sponsor.
Finally, I want to personally thank every member who has taken the time to reach out, either with a word of encouragement or offer their services to help get us through this. The love we are receiving from our community is nothing short of overwhelming. I am reminded time and time again that we are not in this alone, that we do not have to do it ourselves, and that our ultimate authority is a loving higher power who works through us together.
